I work this Monday but then I don’t work again until the 23rd. I know I call off sick a lot because of my anxiety and because I actually do get sick. But is it normal for hours to be cut this drastically? I looked and everyone else’s hours are still the same. I’m wondering if it’s worth talking to them about it or if I should just deal with it.

Retail always cuts hours in January. Unless you are full time employee, it’s somewhat expected. But if you rely on that income to pay bills even if it’s part time, you should speak to them that you need to work at least few hours a week. See what they say

I get social security too and I have money saved up so it’s not crucial I’ll just have to watch what I spend since I do need this money as well. Maybe I’ll ask them I just don’t want to seem like I’m being pushy or asking for anything special. The time off could be useful too since I’ve been under a lot of stress. I don’t know. I guess I just really want to know if I did anything wrong.

If you did something wrong, they’d talk to you. They’d not just cut your hours.

I would ask them about it, especially if you want more hours.

Yes retail does cut hours in January, but it depends what your base line contract is.

My base is 16 hours pw, I work more than that most weeks but once I've had my 16 they don't have to give me more hours which has happened when the budget is lean. I have been asked to go home before.

If you were on a zero hours contract that might be why you were given no hours.

No harm in asking about it though. Usually if you want more hours/overtime you have to let them know.

Yeah, I worked retail for a long time and sometimes that would happen. I would definitely let management know you are interested in coming in if any hours open up. HUGS Kit

I talked to them this morning and said I’d work whatever and they did call me this afternoon and asked if I’d work Wednesday. So at least I got something.
