Every time I work, I end up getting sick, missing time and losing my job. This has happened with me on several jobs. My mother and my boyfriend talked to me about going on disability so I can find the right medicine and run through diagnostic tests to see why I get sick often. However, I'm stuck on wanting to work because I only see my acid reflux causing my illnesses. To me that can easily be controlled with over the counter stuff, so the hell would my mom want me to do my diagnostic **** for something simple? I want to work, and I eventually want to find a career that allows me to work full time and make money. I also want to go to school eventually as well. I'm so tired of getting sick from my acid reflux episodes though, and I easily get infections as well pneumonia after each episode.

Just so you are aware, reflux symptoms can sometimes be a sign of something other than just reflux. So, you might want to get that checked out some time.

Are you saying they want you to try to get disability for reflux? Does that happen?--I had not heard of that.

Unless you have an approved illness “ (there is a list on the social security web site ) and your Doctor agrees you need Disability you will not be approved.

Acid reflux can be treated easily it’s not a disability.

Can you tell us a little more about why reflux causes you to miss so much work that you get fired? Is that the only thing going on?

Sorry if it's been a while to get back to all of the responses. I have lung disease and each acid re-flux episode causes me to have pneumonia. However in the state of Arizona I'm also Seriously Mentally Ill, so I could qualify for disability that way. My boyfriend has SSDI because he has Bipolar Disorder. They mainly want me to be on because I haven't been stable with my jobs due to both mental and physical illness.
