It's like you have to have a college degree for them to be able to hire you on full time for anything. Even then, they start you off at a crappy wage despite that hard earned degree. I mean, is it even worth going back to school? All I've been able to get were part time or temp jobs with them showing very little promise in even being able to get full time hours. How am I supposed to live a comfortable life if I'm barely making livable wages? I do want to go to college eventually, but my mom says I don't have to in order for me to find full time employment. Easy for her to say, she started doing call center work in the 1990s. She even had clerical work experience working under her father at the time. Now, it's just not so easy.

many companies don't hire full time anymore due to the restrictions placed on them for providing health care...it's just cheaper to offer part time for everyone. crappy but easier and cheaper for them.
how are you supposed to live a comfortable life? well part of it is to decide what exactly is a "comfortable" life. will you be driving a new car each year, while living in a brand new condo & eating out every night? probably not. what are your goals? your plans? your education? priorities. also..please know that just because you get your degree in _______, doesn't mean that you will be using it...sometimes career opportunities arise and it takes guts to take the jump and run with them. if your goals are big ticket items...well start saving now...good luck on finding full time...explore all sorts of options... |

If you can afford to go to college, or find a way to go to college, I highly encourage you to do it. Without a college degree, it's difficult to earn a higher living, unless you go into sales. Otherwise, you're facing lower paying jobs for the rest of your life, and it's really hard that way.

More education = more dollars. Period. It is totally worth it, if you can make it happen. Sending you support and strength!!

Because everyone has a college degree now. But I have to say, when I graduated from college i spent the first 3 years post college making wages that would not allow me to live in the world. My first job out of college was an accounting clerk (but I was really doing the job of a cost accountant) and I made 18K per year and NO benefits. But no one cared to hear my complaining. I had to go back to graduate school to get paid a livable wage and you better believe it was 4 or 5 years post grad school until I could afford to move out.
Go to college but make sure to be smart about it. Go to a state school, do not live at school, look for any schools that have grades based rebates. Work a part time job while in school to come out with as little debt as possible. After college there are many organizations such as Americorps that you can go to work for that will pay off your loans. Look for government work which is both stable and offers pensions. |

Have you tried a call center? Those are still available from places like Comcast....they train you in and work you full time. Other than that I agree you need some sort of education. These easiest is an associates from a community college but they pay accordingly. If you go to college just make sure you don’t pick something that requires another degree like a PhD or masters just to get to entry level unless you can afford it.
