Default Lost My Job

Hey everyone,

I sadly lost my job because my employer believed I was performing poorly and it hadn't improved over time. This has been devastating but also unfair.

I'm far from the angry disgruntled ex employee, however I am unhappy and disappointed that they did not follow procedure for disciplinary action, the dismissal itself and they have rejected my appeal.

What bothers me the most about this is by rejecting my appeal against my dismissal, they have taken away my opportunity to provide evidence that one of their three reasons for my dismissal is incorrect. The person who told them what happened has given the wrong information and I have paper evidence to prove it. I've been honest about anything else I had done wrong, but for this particular reason they are not interested in hearing me out. I'm so frustrated that they won't let me speak.

It has also left me in a very difficult position as I was also due to start a new role within the company in August and that is also potentially off the cards because of this. It would be incredibly difficult to find another role like this elsewhere. My career, and life for the moment, is on hold.

I'm not sure what to do. I am looking for other jobs but it's scary.

So sorry you are dealing with this incredibly difficult situation BEG. Are there any other companies out there that could possibly use someone with your skillset?

Sending you support and strength. Maybe you will find something even better out there.

HI @browneyedgirl20. I am very sorry that you face such a difficult and frustrating situation with work.

I don't know what the employment laws are in the UK, but here in the U.S., a person can sue a company legally for "wrongful termination". Since you have documentation proving one of the company's reasons for dismissal to be incorrect, perhaps you have a legal case against them? The difficulty in suing, however, is that it can be a lengthy and difficult process and it may cost you money (I'm not sure).

It may be worthwhile to at least research your legal rights, the employment laws in your country and to perhaps even contact an employment lawyer to see if you have a case to sue.

Otherwise, I'm afraid that you will just have to move on and find another job somehow, as difficult and as painful as that is.

Again, I'm very sorry for your situation. ((((hugs))))

I wish they would have given you a chance to talk and understand the situation. I'm sorry this happened. I hope things move forward and you get a new job soon.

if you can prove they dismissed you because of a disability you would have a chance but otherwise it is a long and expense road which chances are you would not win in a suit. companies have law firms on their books for just such matters.

sadly the best thing is probably to just regather yourself and move on. it sucks but just might be the right thing to do now. sometimes the best choices come out of the worst situations. it might give you a chance to reinvent yourself..now that you are truly aware of your best skill set and such.

I wish you good luck in the future.

I'm very sorry you lost your job @browneyedgirl20 but you should visit Citizens Advice in your area. Citizens Advice These people give excellent employment advice and could guide you into dealing with what I believe is unfair dismissal, or even constructive dismissal. Citizens Advice is a free service though are dependent on voluntary donations.
