It is known that it's the whistleblowers who often get viewed with extreme criticism, frowned upon, blacklisted, fired and let go for calling out bullying and improper unprofessional behavior among higher ups, management or those in charge.

So WHY is it that bullying behavior is allowed in so many work environments, and those who blow the whistle on them get fired and let go?

WHY is this even allowable in our society today?

I don't know what happened when I got laid off this week, and they SAY it's because of financial reasons and COVID, but I also blew the whistle a bunch on my underhanded, sleazy boss who is a bully boss and who was trying to undermine me at work, and I got laid off yet he remains employed.

I think this is very common. I am wondering if has become more common in recent years or if it always was the ‘norm’ and we are just more aware of it now. Either way, the best we can do at this point is get away from it... find another job if possible.

Yeah, I don't know if it's become more common. I am just dying to know why they can get away with poor behavior, you know? It's SO wrong, yet these people remain employed, do not get fired and do not get let go.

And agreed. The only real answer is to just leave.

They do it because they can right? They’re good talkers. It’s well
Known that narcissistic types tend to get promoted. The people at the top are looking at the bottom line and likely aren’t seeing the bigger picture...

Great point!!!! Yes my boss was a great bs artist who bs’ed the CEO like you wouldn’t believe. He’s also a narcissist!! He had the biggest ego.

I had another bully boss’ who was also a narcissist with a massive ego.

You’re onto something important here.

SO what options does one have when one is being mistreated, bullied and/or abused at work? HR is not your friend. Going to HR usually backfires. The only option I see available is to leave the company. It's SO unfortunate that this happens more often than not.

Sadly leaving might be the only option. I am kind of disappointed in your CEO. You said he likes snd respects you. Why would he allow you to be mistreated and bullied??? Was he aware? Usually there is a chain of command. Your boss abuses you, you go to a next level manager.

the 1% dominate and oppress, while pretending they deserve more than their fair share. to put off those who would hold them to account, they forbid complaints (while complaining bitterly of course), and punish all who do. so, all who compete follow this pattern.

He wasn't fully aware I don't think. I wasn't necessarily referring to my recent boss in this thread though. I was speaking more generally.

But yes, my CEO never saw all my achievements, and my boss either took credit for my work or downplayed my achievements to my CEO. I tried to resolve it through HR, to no avail.

Ironically, my CEO asked for my current resume to help me. So now he'll see the list of actual achievements. lol.

Why wasn't he told? I'd say it's better to go to CEO to discuss or complain if lower level supervisor is or isn't doing anything.

Oh I see. You mean in general. Yes there shouldn't be bullying at work.

Yes, I didn't handle it the best way. I was afraid to approach my boss's boss, and I was afraid to confront the issue with the CEO. I was intimidated by my boss, and I was afraid it would get back to him and backfire on me somehow. I also thought that HR could help. She did help somewhat by tracking my achievements for me every month in writing. I did that for four months.

But now I know better. Don't go to HR.

But yeah, generally speaking, I hear a lot about bullying at work, and I hear all too often that it's the whistleblower who gets in trouble, not the bully.
