I'm looking for a job! I haven't worked in a long time. Then the pandemic hit, and I moved twice this summer. I feel now I'm ready and healthy. My goal is to make enough money to afford a good apartment. I know exactly where I want to live. And I want to support myself. I also want to be able to afford a better car and not rely on my parents. It feels really good to have this goal and to know what I want. I have to figure out how to answer why I've been out of work so long in interviews. Its bc if my mh disability and I was scared to work before. I could say medical. Then they say "what did you do while not working?" It feels good to have this goal.

That’s awesome! Could you say you were on disability or simply had a health problem? And while on disability or dealing with health issue you were working on improving your health so you can return to work. They can’t really say “what kind of disability or illness?” Not their business really

Thanks! Yes. I could say that. In my state, at least, its illegal (last time a checked anyway) to ask about a person's disability. And if I said it was health / medical, I have a right to privacy. They can, I believe, ask about "what I've been doing with my time," I think. Its a bit nosy, imo. But yeah I could say working on my health and also volunteering, which is all true.

I'm going to apply to receive employment services, but it may take a while and I'm going to look on my own too.

I think you have done so many different valuable volunteer roles you can really shine when they ask what you've been doing with your time. Make sure you let them know something about yourself, your values and who you are when you do this.

When I had my last job interview I worried they would ask me why I left my previous job (It was not a good fit for me but I worried it would look bad) but they never did they were too busy with the check list in front of them! I got the job btw.
