I don’t understand why some people tell other people obvious lies. I’d rather not have them say they’ll call me back and not get my hopes up.
Yeah that’s annoying, a couple of times after interviews I was told they wanted to hire me and then got nothing/rejection. I wondered if the person themselves did want to hire me but maybe conferring with others afterwards they were overruled. Maybe. Who knows. It sucks though because you feel hopeful and then hopes get dashed.

Keep on plugging away and you’ll get there.
